Building for the Future Campaign

Dear Members, Friends, and Supporters,

Summertime is upon us, and I hope you are all enjoying time traveling and seeing family and friends. At Vallarta Yacht Club, we are in our usual lull but working at attracting business to the Picante Grill and creating fun activities for our members. For more than 20 years, Vallarta Yacht Club has been a place where friendships are formed, sailors are developed, and our community comes together both on and off the water.

Throughout our history, we have worked hard to maintain an affordable and accessible membership structure while providing meaningful programs, events, and services for our members and the broader community. Along the way, we have been fortunate to receive generous support from members and friends who believe in the Club's mission and future. We are deeply grateful for that commitment.

As we approach our 25th Anniversary, we are launching our Building for the Future Campaign—an initiative designed to strengthen the long-term sustainability of Vallarta Yacht Club and position us for continued growth and success in the years ahead. Today, Board members and volunteers are actively working on new membership initiatives, expanded sponsorship opportunities, strategic partnerships, enhanced programming, and fresh ideas designed to increase participation and ensure long-term sustainability.

We believe the future of Vallarta Yacht Club is exceptionally bright.

Right now, the Vallarta Yacht Club has teams actively working on:

  • New Membership Initiatives

    • Invite sports programs in local schools and universities to participate in the VYC Sailing Program

    • Solicit memberships from Guadalajara with enhanced membership benefits

    • This outreach program will be headed by the Director of Membership, Carlos Ramos

  • Continue to grow the Junior Sailing Program at local schools

    • Create exposure by visiting local schools and presenting benefits of the program

    • Encourage sponsorship of the program through corporate presence

    • Actively organize monthly regattas specifically for the Junior Sailors

    • Encourage parent participation in the program as well as race committee

    • This project is being organized by the Director of Junior Sailing, Pepe Silva.

  • Expand Sponsorship Opportunities

    • Appeal to larger corporations for aid in growing sailing in Mexico

    • Actively solicit sponsorship for the Junior Sailing Program and various Regattas

    • This project is being spearheaded by the Director of Ashore Activities, Louise Otto.

  • Create Strategic Partnerships

    • This initiative is intended to partner with a variety of businesses that are interested in providing discounts and concierge services to our members.

    • This would make memberships more attractive to those looking for enhanced membership

    • This project is being initiated by the Director of Membership, Carlos Ramos.

  • Provide enhanced events and programming, both on and off the water.

    • To attract new members and younger members, the club needs to create experiences that appeal to that demographic.

    • Explore the concept of an outpost that would make gathering more attractive to the younger sailing community who live outside of the immediate area.

    • The purpose is to grow participation, increase membership and ensure long-term stability

    • This initiative is headed by Rear Commodore, Andy Barrow along with Louise Otto, Carlos Ramos, and Lee Suzuki.

  • Create the first dedicated Working Capital Reserve Fund in Vallarta Yacht Club's history.

    • This fund will provide financial stability, allow the Club to pursue new opportunities, and help ensure that future generations enjoy the same vibrant sailing and social community that we enjoy today.

    • This will be the first attempt at creating a fund that will sustain our future

    • The creation of this fund will be dependent on prudent spending, appropriate pricing for events, regattas, and the Picante Grill, as well as contributions from members and sponsors

    • This initiative will be spearheaded by the Treasurer, Cliff Cook, with the support and direction of the Board of Directors and the members at large.

None of these initiatives can succeed without member participation. We encourage you to:

  • Get involved in these initiatives and help strengthen our Club.

  • Invite friends and guests to experience the Club.

  • Make a one-time contribution.

  • Become a monthly supporter.

  • Sponsor a Club event or program.

  • Renew or upgrade your membership.

Every contribution, every connection, and every show of support helps strengthen our future.

Most importantly, thank you for being part of the Vallarta Yacht Club community. The strength of this Club has always been its people. Together, we can ensure that the next 25 years are even more successful than the first.

All the best,
